Our Company History

TPgrndopenCustomOn March 10, 1986, Tom Proctor opened Vacuum Cleaner Hospital's doors. Long hours, "sick" vacuum cleaners, consistent sales and bookkeeping demanded much of his time, but with some help from his fiancée, Ruth (now Mrs. Proctor), his modest store began to grow. VCH offered the popular vacuum brands customers wanted, and within a year, Proctor was able to hire a part-time employee to help with customer traffic sales and repair.VCHService
In 1990, Proctor moved VCH to its current location on Elliott Road in Chapel Hill, and by the end of the year, he was able to employ a full-time repair technician, David Vandergriff, who is with the company today and has played a vital part in VCH's continued growth, success and quality repair reputation.
In 1992, Jody Witt joined VCH to help with sales and bookkeeping. Now general manager, Jody strives to offer VCH customers the best possible solutions to their cleaning needs.
By 1995, VCH installed central vacuum systems on a regular basis, so Proctor created a new business division called Central Vacuum Experts. CVE is a regular vendor at the annual Southern Ideal Home Show in Raleigh.VCHShowroom
In 1999, the VCH showroom underwent a complete renovation. Proctor added new flooring, lighting and all new displays to create a truly modern retail space. Since then, VCH has added a fully functioning central vacuum system and vac pan display
